18th April - Spurs in History

18th April, 1998

Barnsley 1 Spurs 1 (Premiership)

Spurs struggle against relegation continued against one of their rivals for the dreaded drop. Spurs had gone out of the FA Cup in a replay at Barnsley, so they knew it would be a difficult game.

Barnsley took he lead in the first half but Spurs had opportunities to equalise. Klinsmann missed an opportunity to level when it seemed easier to score. A half-time tactical switch saw Chris Armstrong replace Klinsmann to play beside Les Ferdinand as strikers and within a minute Colin Calderwood (Pic: Calderwood - scored vital goal) had equalised. Spurs were reduced to ten men when Ramon Vega was sent off but Spurs had a chance to win but David Ginola shot straight at the goalkeeper.

This point kept Spurs two points ahead of Barnsley in the battle against relegation, with only three games remaining.

18th April, 1992

Spurs 3 Wimbledon 2

The last win on this day came courtesy of goals from Gary Lineker (2) and John Hendry who came on as substitute. This was Spurs last win of a very disappointing season undr Peter Shreeve when Spurs finished 15th in the League.

18th April, 2003

Spurs 0 Manchester City 2

Spurs last played on this day in 2003 and another poor performance from Glenn Hoddle's side saw them lose to City. Spurs lost the final three home games of the season.

18th April, 1987

Spurs 1 Charlton 0

Clive Allen continued his goal scoring feats in this game as David Pleat's side won their seventh successive home League match and completed a League 'double' over Charlton. Spurs finished the season in 3rd place while Charlton, in their first season back in the top League, just avoided relegation by one place and two points.
